AboutTae Kwon do is a Martial Art, the origin of which dates back thousands of years to a time when weaponless fighting was prevalent in countries throughout Asia. It has been practiced for over 2,000 years. Today, Tae Kwon Do is taught primarily as a sport and means of self-defense.
The term breaks down into: Tae; means to jump or kick with the foot; Kwon denotes with the hand or fist; Do means an art, way or method. As several versions of Tae Kwon Do have evolved, "Chung Do Kwan" (Blue Wave) is used to specify the version organized by GrandmasterDuk Sung Son. Mr. Richardson seventh dan and local Master and founder of Northern Arizona Martial Arts, is a direct student of Mr. Son's and was president of the Chung Do Kwan Alliance, which preceded Chung Do Kwan USA . Lou Blazquez has also studied with Mr. Son and is student of Mr. Richardson. Tae Kwon Do is a superb means of exercise equally suitable for men and women of all ages. Tae Kwon Do requires the body to move in all directions, and uniform physical development is one of the benefits of a regularly participating student. Other natural results realized by continued practice are increased self-awareness, confidence, and self-control. Improvement in school marks often occurs in young people studying Tae Kwon Do. |
